For the last few weeks my pi 2 running kali has been working perfectly. After downloading tightvnc and rebooting it no longer automatically takes me to the Kali desktop. Instead, I get the command line. After logging in, I have attempted to run the startx command. The error is:

xinit: giving up
xinit:unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
xauth: error in locking authority file /root/.Xauthority
I looked at the website, but so far none of the fixes have helped. I am also struggling to get the ethernet to work (I know that it is iconfig eth0 up, but I'm not sure that it is working).
Fairly new to kali, so appreciate any and all detailed help.
