default text editor

anyone know how to change default gui text editor? if you want to use pyroom or leafpad not gedit by default.
tried
# update-alternatives --config editor
not an alternative, dont know how/if another alternative can be aded
also tried
# update-alternatives --set editor /usr/bin/leafpad
not an alter alternative /usr/bin/leafpad for editor not registered.....
so its a circle

right click on document select "open with" , select "use as default"

There is a solution to change it in terminal only?
I can change on graphical interface.
# update-alternatives --set editor >>> no leafpad opcion
