USB OTG not working on Nexus 4 Lollipop

I have installed nethunter 3 on my nexus 4 (with stock lollipop). The chroot and rest of the functions seem to be working fine, but usb OTG does not work. (I am using a y cable)

I have tried using a keyboard, usb hub, and tp link wifi adapter, which all do not work. They show up in lsusb as this:

    root@kali:~# lsusb
libudev: udev_has_devtmpfs: name_to_handle_at on /dev: Function not implemented
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05c6:9048 Qualcomm, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

The wifi adapter does not ahow up in ifconfig or iwconfig

I tried using an app called OTG troubleshooter, which says my device has no usb host support.

I have read several threads/tutorials which say you need to install a kernel that supports OTG.
I'm really confused. I thought that the kali kernel was installed when I installed Kali. Do I have to install it separately? How do I tell if I have the Kali kernel installed?

I have no idea whats wrong here. I've tried installing the aetheros firmware package, which did not help either.

Had a similar issue with a OPO and it turned out to be a kernel-related issue. But it was a different scenario as the usb stick worked and I was using a different phone.

Btw to check your kernel version go to your phone's settings > About phone > Kernel version.

Though we don't know which ROM you are running nethunter on yet.

Also, is your adapter a TL-WN722N?
