/etc/network/interfaces keeps resetting on reboot

I'm trying to make some permanent changes to /etc/network/interfaces but it resets on reboot. A general search brought me to

which suggests that a startup script is rewriting the file each time on booting. The solution on the page is for Debian and the startup script named there is /usr/sbin/debian which doesn't exist on my Kali install version 2016.1 32bit.

Does anyone know where the equilvalent script for Kali should be? Or know of another way to solve the problem? Thanks!

I'm trying to make permanent changes to /etc/network/interfaces

but it seems to keep getting overwritten by some startup script. I'd like to find and edit that startup script and stop this. I'm trying to find the startup script on my own but as I'm using a live USB of Kali, it's taking forever.

It's specific to Kali live USB even with persistence that system configurations are reset on reboot
You might consider full install on USB or some workarounds like adding startup script which would modify /etc/network/interfaces file before networking.service starts

Having the same problem. Am using a specific gateway for Kali to connect to the network. At first start up I modify the 'interfaces' file and /etc/resolv.config file, run ifup eth0 to reload the network, and ifconfig shows the IP data as I changed it. Then I do the apt-get update/upgrade/dist-upgrade and reboot. That reset interfaces and resolv.config to previous states. More of a pain in the **** is that it wipes out all the updates. Tried exiting with 'save state' then started Kali and everything was good. Thought that would hold and exited with 'restart' and again got the files reset. Thought 'save state' would have created a permanent copy. I followed the link but it doesn't match up with my configuration. I load from hard drive not a USB.

Appreciate any suggestions.
