Problems with Videos and VLC in Kali 2

Hello, lets go straight to it.

I'm trying to play some videos I have (definitely not porn) and I receive the following error message "This file cannot be played over the network. Try downloading it locally first.", this is on Videos (the player that comes with Kali out-of-the-box), and before any of you tell me to try VLC, please refer to the screen shots below.

It used to work a day ago, now it wont (both the VLC and Videos).

So to resume everything: Videos won't play on native player, it says the file is not local when in fact they are, VLC won't maximize the videos at all, and it used to do that just fine (yes I looked over the config even reset everything to defaults its not that).

i got the same problem with Videos

try this, with the vlc got to preferences- click on videos-output- change to x11 vidoe output (xcb)

same here. installed all codecs and totem still got problems
vlc work with almost all videos good with OpenGL GLX output

Thank you man, your solution worked for me, I reinstalled my system anyway (3rd time this month), now trying to solve my wine problem.
