Live Persistence on Surface Book?

Does anyone know how and if it would be possible to run kali on a surfacebook. I Just tried an Ubuntu live load and it didn't pick up the keyboard. And when I tried the Kali, it didn't even boot. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the detachable aspect of the machine.

Use a USB keyboard, I can get through the install but get a black screen, I'm trying to figure out how ti tweak the display settings.
