Dual booting Kali linux and Windows 10 pro makes POSTing take forever

    Hello,

I have Windows 10 pro and Kali linux 2016 installed on 2 separate drives on my laptop. After successful installation my computer began to take forever to POST. After POSTing it would boot up very fast though. After trying several hardware troubleshooting steps, along with manufacturer help, nothing seemed to help. I was about to send it in to get checked out, but i needed to use solely windows for a while, and during that time it would POST and boot up quickly. Later i booted into kali, and the problem returned. it now takes insanely long to POST, and many times it doesnt POST at all, i have to force shutdown, and try again until it does.

if you have windows on a hard drive and want to install kali on other hard drive, make sure you unplug the power and SATA cables from the windows HDD. install kali on the second drive then reboot on kali install. if everything went well, power off, and reconect the other HDD. reboot on kali again and on a terminal insert "update-grub" . this will regenerate the GRUB configuration file and it will scan the system for other operating systems. make sure that on the output there's a line in which it detected the boot manager of windows from the other hard drive. if so, grub will add an entry for all detected operating systems, so at the next reboot you will be able to choose between kali or windows. have fun
