Upgraded Lenovo T440 to Kali Rolling and can't login

Hi I've just upgraded my Lenovo T440 from Sana to Rolling and am getting the screen flickering between tty1 and the GUI login when I start it. It doesn't even give me a chance to enter my user/passwd from there.

Tried going into recovery mode, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, apt-get dist-upgrade -y and it's the same thing. lspi reports my VGA compatible controller as being Haswell-ULT Corporation. The only fixes I have found online were for people using Nvidia graphics. Any ideas?

...and I just found I can no longer update either~!

The only thing I have in my sources.list is the Kali Rolling repo, what gives?!?! Please help!

um... okay? Guess it's the regular "fix" when a major release comes out: Backup & Reinstall.
