Question Difference betwen ISO and VMWare image ?

    Hello,

I'm a beginner with Kali and I have tried to download and install the system in two differents way : the official ISO image and the VMWare image. I checked the SHA1 for each images and they are OK.

With the iso image, when the install is complete, I open a terminal and run "uname -a". The answer is :
    Linux Kali2 4.3.0-kali1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.3.3-5kali4 (2016-01-13) x86_64 GNU/Linux
If I try to update this system with "apt-get update" and "apt-get dist-upgrade", no updates were found.

With the VMWare image, the uname command return :
    Linux kali 4.3.0-kali1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.3.3-7kali2 (2016-01-27) x86_64 GNU/Linux
In this case, the update commands update the system to the following version :
    Linux kali 4.5.0-kali1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.5.3-2kali1 (2016-05-09) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Even after see this page http://pkg.kali.org/pkg/linux, I don't understand why the official image don't update. Does it's because it's a "sana version" ? What does it mean ? Does it exist a page who explain this ?

Thanks for your help and sorry for my poor english

Into the iso image, the "source.list" is just fill with two cdrom lines and they are comment. I add the official repository like indicate at "http://docs.kali.org/general-use/kali-linux-sources-list-repositories" and it's work fine.

I think the VMWare & VirtualBox images always lag a bit behind the ISO releases.
