Question Regarding Installing and Using Kali on an EXTERNAL SSD

This is quite a unique/odd scenario. My current Windows 10 (desktop) system has 4 hard drives/SSDs. One of the SSD's I do not use. What I want to do is get a SATA to USB 3.0 cable/adapter so that I can use Kali on my laptop (not the same as the desktop stated above). What I'm wondering is, if I install Kali on the SSD while its on my desktop, take it out of my desktop, connect it to my laptop via a SATA -> USB 3.0 adapter, will I be able to use it as if it were just another SATA connected hard drive in my laptop? Or would it act like a Live USB? Can I even boot/use an OS that is connected through a USB interface? I want to make sure I will be able to do the things stated above before I go out and buy an adapter for SATA -> USB 3.0.

Thanks to anyone who can give any insight.

Yeah, it should work fine as long as your laptop can boot from USB.
If you just copy the Kali iso to the SSD using one of the various bootable USB creators it will run like
    a liveCD.
If you install Kali to the SSD using a liveCD it'll run normally.

    Hope that helps.
