    Problems with USB Persistence

    Hello,

Am using a Samsung ATIV Book 9 NP940X5J-K01US with Intel Core i5-4200 CPU @ 1.6GHz 2.3GHz with 8GB RAM and Windows 10 Home with 64-bit. My Wireless Card is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 with driver 18.11.0.8 (in Windows) - though I have recently bought (but not yet installed) a TL-WN722N.

I have downloaded Kali in its full 64-bit version (2016,1) from here: https://www.kali.org/downloads/ via torrent and checked the checksum.

I am mounting Kali via a bootable USB, not vial Virtual Machine, using USB Persistence. Thereafter I run apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade.

apt-get update is good - it does not return many updates, and at the second run none at all.

However, when I run apt-get dist-upgrade, I get the following:
    1068 upgraded
    92 newly installed
    7 to remove
    0 not upgraded
After this operation, 432 MB of additional disk space will be used.
E: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives

The Mini tool partition wizzard for my USB shows the following:

Capacity Used Unused File system Type Status
    D 2.66 GB 2.66 GB 0 B Other Primary Active&Hidden
    * 89.03 MB 84.88 MB 4.15 MB FAT Primary None
*.persistence 4.75 GB 3.60 GB 1.16 GB Ext4 Primary None

Any ideas, please? I am a newbie and my goal is to run REAVER.

    Thank you!

    Franco

Regarding the previous message I just noticed I left out one (perhaps important) error message: Need to get 1,390 MB / 1,392 MB of archives
So in its entirety, it reads
    1068 upgraded
    92 newly installed
    7 to remove
    0 not upgraded
Need to get 1,390 MB/1,392 MB of archives
After this operation, 432 MB of additional disk space will be used.
E: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives

So could it be that it wants 1,390 MB of space while there is only 1.16 GB left on the USB, and as such the 8GB USB stick is too small to use for persistence?

    Thanks!
