    Kali Update Stuck

I have tried twice to install the Kali pre-built VM for Virtualbox.

When I try to do the apt-get dist-upgrade, it runs fine (for a long time) and then gets stuck on the following:

Installing new version of config file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.conf ...

    Just sits there.

    Any ideas?

I've got it working. Just load up a text login without using gnome then the upgrade works. I imagine it hangs as it's trying to update some utilities that are in use when using the GUI.

    Cheers,
    Trev.

    trevorx is right!
Do not use GUI during a apt-get distri-update. Kali on VM, in same cases can´t stop some tools during updates.

I am having the same issue but the system is hung on

"Installing new version of config file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.conf …"

What can I do to resolve this and run the update?

I am still having same issue and my VMware is currently hung at this exact place

"When I try to do the apt-get dist-upgrade, it runs fine (for a long time) and then gets stuck on the following:

Installing new version of config file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.conf "

Do I need to run apt-get dist-upgrade ? and if so how do I quit the apt-get dist-upgrade without having any issues?

    Thanks you
    WD

"/etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.conf" is probably locked because like trevorx said, don't update your system in GUI, use tty instead.

What is TTY and how do I use it?

    It's text consoles, press CTRL+ALT+F3.
