    Intermittent Startup Failure

    Hello

I am having intermittent startup problems with a clean install of Kali 2016.2 on a Dell Latitude E6230. Sometimes the machine appears to halt during startup.

On startup I have the following log failures on screen:
    • [FAILED] Failed to start Authenticate and Authorize Users to Run Pro
See 'systemctl status polkitd.service' for details
    • [FAILED] Failed to start Network Manager
See 'systemctl status NetworkManager.service' for details
    • [FAILED] Failed to start Accounts Service
See 'systemctl status accounts-daemon.service' for details

I then get to the last message on this screen:
    • [ OK ] Started Update UTMP about System Runlevel Changes.

At this stage the system either displays the Gnome logon prompt after ~3 seconds, or freezes. In this case I can press Alt+F2 to get to a console window but am not sure what else to do.

I have checked the log files as instructed but can't see any errors or ideas for troubleshooting. All three commands show as active (running).

Help appreciated in solving this, thank you!

    Hi,

open the console window (Alt+F2). Then run updates

    Code:
    apt-get clean && apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y && apt-get dist-upgrade -y && apt-get autoremove -y
After this reboot your system and it should run

This worked, but lots of my kali applications would not work. I re-imaged my computer because I had just set it up anyway and I didn't have any data to lose but you might want to find an alternative (if there is one) if you have data stored on your machine.

I have the same issue, dont think its the VM itself but VMWARE drivers @ host system. After my Kali went crazy the 2nd time within 4 month, i reinstalled VM+ also did a fresh Kali install, but I always get the same error like TO.
