The PC I'm using is really, really old. It has a Pentium 4. Anyway, I installed Kali linux on it, because I can't install it on my current laptop. The installation worked fine, but now that I'm trying to boot, I keep getting a error, where it says this:
[drm] GPU HANG: ecode 2:0:0x37fffc1, reason: Ring hung, action: reset
There's some stuff about reporting a bug, and listing a file location I obviously can't access.
Then, it says
i915: render error detected, EIR: 0x00000010
[drm:i915_handle_error [i915]] *ERROR* EIR stuck: 0x00000010, masking drm/i915: Resetting chip after GPU hang
[drm:i915_reset [i915]] *ERROR* Failed to reset chip: -19
[drm: intel_set_cpu_fifo_inderrun_reporting [i915]] *ERROR* pipe A underrun
This error also appears when booting off the DVD, but for some reason still proceeds to boot properly.
I don't understand this, other than the GPU in this ancient PC is really crappy. Is there any way I can fix this? I was thinking of changing the GRUB commands for the Kali linux entry to make it boot into CLI mode, so it's less strenuous to the GPU.
