    Kali stuck on old kernel

    Hi

    I'm trying to install the kernel headers so I can update drivers on macbook pro. When i install the kernel headers using the 'uname -r' option it says not found. So when i check uname -r says i have 4.6.0 installed.

    When i autocomplete at terminal with apt-get install kernel-headers- all it shows is 4.8.0

    Apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade doesnt update the kernel to 4.8.0.

    So am I supposed to install the 4.8.0 headers? or what should I do?

    Thanks

    After no answers and a lot of googling, i think I found the problem. Apparently the kernel won't upgrade when running from live usb. Its just the user data that gets stored in persistence. So on live USB you are stuck with kernel that is there from download of image? Can someone confirm this?

    The 4.8.0 kernel is installed alongside the 4.6.0 when i check via 'dpkg' but apparently can't be booted.
