    Kali 2016.2 messed up Desktop after after upgrade/dist-upgrade

    -I'am running Dual boot Windows 10/Kali Linux Rolling Edition 2016.2.

    -Kali was working fine untill i did Upgrade last night following this command : apt-get clean && apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y && apt-get dist-upgrade -y

    -After updating, i was able to login normaly with some missing icon in login screen, then first it was black screen with only text & now blue.

    -IMG_20161221_185010.jpg : Picture of the problem.

    -Kali Version : 2016.2

    -Kali Architecture : 64 bit

    -PC Specs : I7 4720hq @2.6Ghz , 16Gb DDR3 RAM , Intel HD 4600 & Nvidia GeForce 960m.

    Got exact problem on two different machines. PC's specs are not of the essence, I think VM is more crucial. I'm using VMware, mb VBox working better. And one significant thing - after I tryed to open terminal system crashes to logon-screen.
    Seems x86 is a way stable than x64, at least it updating fine.

    Of course there is another solutions:
    1) Use the system "as is" and do not update it;
    2) Download iso. every time you wish and reinstall the entire system.

    @hausoo: It's for KDE, not Gnome.

    @Bleobq: Updating is crucial for not being vulnerable too !

    @SpectrE_Fth: Have you take a look at yours logs ? Maybe a Gnome update is not correctly installed.

    I had the exact same problem with a slight variance in the way the screen appeared at the completion of apt-get upgrade. It seemed that update worked fine until I upgraded. I delete my entire lab top and reinstalled Kali 2016-2 on my acer es 15 { also windows 10 real pain} I redid apt-get update then went straight to apt-get dist-update everything seems to be fine now. I now have kali 2016-3-2 on my labtop and windows 10 on EUFI

    I also have kali-linux dual boot with windows 10 on UEFI system but I didn't have this problem. If you do apt-get upgrade, does weird screen appear again?

    Red face problem could solved~

    @SpectrE_Fth
    have u done with it?

    it`s quite simple, reboot and wait for the login screen, type: Ctrl+Alt+F1~F6 (i`m not sure which button match your PC, my laptop use F2) whatever~
    and make sure you saw your NULL-interface account login, after login with command line, type : dpkg --configure -a

    just wait finish upgrade.

    this mess cause lose some data when you doing upgrade, continue to upgrade ,it`s will be solved!

    forgive my poor english.
