Upgrade distro from Kali 1.1.0 (moto) to the latest one.

    Hi, all!

I'm having some troubles trying to upgrade my Kali from Kali 1.1.0 (moto) to Kali 2016.2.

I have a VM with the right permissions to write and everything. I can also upgrade all the packages but keeping the same Kali version. What I need is basically upgrade my OS because I have a license there that I can't use in any other system (I've already tried everything; copied /opt/, /var/, /usr/, etc).

I did apt-get autoclean, clean, update, upgrade, distro-upgrade, I added the new repositories, restarted the system, etc. But after doing all that with messages of success, I see the same old distro (Kali 1.1.0 (moto)).

Do you know any good way to do this? and besides that, is there any way to do it without breaking things like the desktop environment and other new stuff?

    Thanks!!

Your mileage may vary, but when it comes to major Kali updates, I take a backup, then do a clean install.
