I've had a lot of trouble installing Kali 2016.2, so instead of spending the rest of my life trying to get an old installer to work, I wanted to try my luck with a newer image:
- The latest "official" build from https://www.kali.org/downloads/ still shows 2016.2, from the middle of last year, as the latest build.
- "unofficial, untested weekly releases" are still being generated.
- https://bugs.kali.org/roadmap_page.php shows an overdue 2017 release scheduled for 2 months ago.
- https://bugs.kali.org/changelog_page.php shows a long list of issues against the 2017 release, all resolved.
- http://pkg.kali.org/pkg/kali-meta suggests that this was actually released on time, and that a few point releases have followed since.
What is the actual status of Kali 2017, to the extent that it means anything for a rolling distro
