    Question Graphical installation issues

I've successfully installed Kali Linux onto what I believe to be a HP Pavilion DV2 laptop (it was donated to me without an HDD).

It took a couple of attempts, to get done, the first time came with GRUB issues, this time seems to have been almost entirely successful, the problem is this:

When I boot it up, the graphics are messed up. text is almost illegible in the GUI (once I find my way to terminal, it's clear as day).

I was wondering if someone could provide me with a little advice in relation to:
    1. What may have gone wrong (could I be using the incorrect version of Kali for the device? (I used 64 bit and installed from a mounted USB drive (There's a massive part of me that does not understand why I went for 64 bit)).
    2. If there are any fixes anyone knows of to resolve similar issues

Any help would be massively appreciated. I'm somewhat new to all this and it's a project for work that needs to be sorted ASAP.

Sounds like a graphics card issue. What gets reported as the video card in the output of lspci?

Anything useful in the output of dmesg or in /var/log?
