    kali linux troubleshooting buddy plz?

Hello, my name is Brian.. let me first start off by saying, I am exhausted with kali linux. I decided to take the dive into kali-linux roughly 3months ago.
I have been going through the processes of learning kali linux. The installation process was a pain for months. I didn't give up though, and I didn't ask for help. I researched Kali for months now. Steps I took:

    1. Bought laptop, windows 10, notebook hp. *kali linux took 2hrs to download, and I kept getting a interruption on the download*
-solution, upgraded to 100MB/S, now takes 5minutes to download.

    2. Install virtual machine on the laptop. *realized 2gb of ram isn't enough*

    3. Got the old grand daddy desktop computer going(a Cadillac back in its day) 2008 desktop, it needs some work, but its kick *** in a sense lol. *The basic input output settings (mobo) didn't support virtualization!*

    4. I didn't give up there though, A laptop was given to me, with 4gb ram, and 300gb HD. At this time I had an old pavilion HP laptop, I installed slacko linux on.

    5. This laptop had windows 7 installed onto it, it started having ATA3 n SATA ERROR=32 problems and such. It would recognize windows 7, than it wouldn't. Than I set it down in the floor, and it recognized windows7 (the harddrive), I was like hmmm... I hit the bottom of the laptop and got the blue screen of death. So I opened up the laptop, and realized the HD was coming loose. Rigged it back together. Success! So than i'm going through...

    6. I fought the flash drive, and different live usb creators. Pendrive, Rufus, live linux usb creator, win32. Pendrive worked with slacko, but not Kali. ultimately win32 was the winner. I didn't realize that after it made the usb bootable iso, that the file system wasn't NTFS or EXFAT, ultimately i thought it was corrupted, than went on to trying the other applications, and all of them fail'd for me. Thats when i started studying partitioning, and file systems.. So when win32 was made as an bootable usb iso, and i refreshed it, and it didn't recognize the file system, I realized, this is what i want. Windows only wants to recognize ntfs, exfat. Annoying o.o! So my first choice was win32usbcreator, and i thought it was faulty, when it was the correct choice. So I installed the graphical kali, and it recognized the media device, and I was like **** yeah! lol. I learned how to move ultra fast with diskpart, and computer management disk management, and partitioning because all of this. Everyone seemed to have a different way to tell u to do it, but failed to give u the important details of the file systems.
I also decided to learn about cheksums, and make sure the files downloaded correctly.

(Just to add, I tried to mount /dev/sdb1 /cdrom and all that good stuff, before I realized the file system was causing me the problem)

    7. So I partition my harddrive and have /home separate with a swap partition, everything is going good. Feeling great, all that time invested was finally paying off. so I installed kali linux and I watched a few videos on how to update it, and I updated it by going to /etc/apt leafpad sources.list, and this is where I think i may of made a mistake. I added in...
deb http://old.kali.org/kali sana main non-free contrib
    # For source package access, uncomment the following line
    # deb-src http://old.kali.org/kali sana main non-free contrib

deb http://old.kali.org/kali moto main non-free contrib
    # For source package access, uncomment the following line
    # deb-src http://old.kali.org/kali moto main non-free contrib

These to my repo. I did the apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade.. Everything seemed to run okay, 18items couldn't b upgraded... Than i recieved...

It randomly froze, I turned it off than back on.....
    sda5 clean.....
radeon error failed to load firmware! fatal error during firmware, GPU errror..... So I remove the repo sources, and just kept.....

    deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free
    # For source package access, uncomment the following line
    # deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free

than i had the connecting to... http://http.kali.org/kali Error, after doing upgrade. So i changed the Http://repo.kali.org/kali... Than it upgraded the 18 items that wouldn't upgrade previsously... I still get the GPU/firmware/fatalerror...

So I lspci -v say i had a radeon HD, and was trying to figure out, if its me, or a driver... I'm new to linux...

This has been a on going non-stop brick wall one after another.. I don't want to just reinstall kali, every time a problem comes up, delete partitions, and reinstall. N I don't know if I reinstall if i should keep the /home partition or not at this point.

Between all of this... I was learning networking, windows command lines, different computer languages (the basics), html5,css,bootstrap etc... Also while trying to recieve an online job, customer service related, work from home..

I don't want to hear, well you need to google it! I have googled, and fought kali linux til I finally broke down and joined these forums. I am dedicated to learning Kali. I want to learn linux operating systems, and yes I alrdy know Kali is for advance pentesters, I don't care... I was 14years old when I learned how to play texas hold'em, and I couldn't even read the advanced book, I cried. I sat there and taught my self to read, and by age 15, i was turning 20$ into 5k, in a week or two. I played annie duke, daniel, devilfish, at ages 15/16, for thousands. Okay... I really hope to get a solution to this problem, with the fatal error GPU, and firmware. Hopefully it isn't going to be a -f =-asl MNk234jlsdf x123 <3123 something complicated, and with no real explanation.

N I almost would be willing to beg... for this next request.. If you want to make a friendship, and communicate through skype, or some kind of services, where we can regularly be in contact. Please lets do it. I would like a true buddy. A partner in crime. Someone who doesn't mind being ahead and helping me catch up. Becuz if I was ahead, i'd help someone catch up. I use to power level peoples characters in diablo 2, for free. Small example... lol ^.^.

Anyways, this is kind of a babbling rant, but the idea is.. look I really went through a lot the past months with kali.. I could write a chapter for what i went through. The steps provided, does not even detail the obstacles I really had to overcome. I learned a lot, just to keep advancing while kali had me stomp'd. Than I explained where I am at, and my problem now currently. Then an offer, to have a partner in crime... ethical crime lol. Anyways.. i'm interested to see whats up, how this is taken.. Trolled? Moved? over looked? a solution that walmart would give? lol lets see...

Okay, so I figured out that the problem is the Radeon HD driver, it can not find Palm_pfp.bin, I have tried to locate how to gather the file, and place it in the radeon driver section of kali linux... no luck. Any ideas?

Okay so I decided to, reinstall kali linux. This time I didn't add in the extra, respo's. I logged into windows 7 os, quickly removed the partitions for kali, made the usb off of win32discimager really fast, started the graphical install... set it all up again. Logged into kali, went to etc/apt leafpad sources.list took the comment off deb-src, than did apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, apt-get dist, reboot. The palm_pfp.bin is in the lib/firmware/radeon section, plus a ton of drivers, that was not showing up before.

Lesson... Do not add in older versions of kali, to the repository list. in addition apt-get autoremove, could of also been dangerous. Now the GPU is working with kali, and the motions of moving terminal around, is smooth and fluent.... Thx for the help guyz!

    I did NOT edit the
    sources.list
simply installed Kali from a USB drive with kali-linux-light-2017.1-amd64.iso

    then
    Code:
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt upgrade
    and checked
    Code:
    sudo find / -iname '*palm_pfp*'

    /lib/firmware/radeon/PALM_pfp.bin
I would suggest NOT editing the
    sources.list

Before you came to the solution I would also suggest to reinstall it. Once it is broken by old repositories it remains broken.
