    Error booting to Kali

    Hi,

I have recently just installed Kali as a dual boot with my Windows 10 OS, it is installed on a separate SSD to windows.

When trying to boot into Kali, I am receiving a black screen, sort of like a command prompt, what is giving me all sorts of messages that I have no clue what they mean (this is my first Kali / Linux install).

    The messages are;
[2.771432] usbhid 9-1:1.2: couldn't find an input interrupt endpoint
[2.771432] usbhid 9-1:1.2: couldn't find an input interrupt endpoint
    [12.459685] hid-generic 003:1B19.0002: usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed: -1

Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems:
    - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
    - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
    - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; is /dev)
ALERT! /dev/sdd3 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

    BusyBox v1.22.1 (Debian 1:1.22.0-19+b2) built-in shell (ash)

Please, let me know if you have and ideas for what could help me fix this.

For the record, if you ask, I'm running an AMD FX6300, 16GB ram and a GTX 960.

    Thank you.

Based on the error messages, my guess is a hardware incompatibility. Did you verify the checksums of the download, to make sure the download was good? Did your install go well, no errors? Have you tried making a live USB or DVD, and booting from that, to verify your PC hardware is compatible? Is Kali installed on a built-in SSD, or is it a USB SSD?

If you have no prior Linux experience, Kali can be daunting...so brace yourself for some frustration

Hi i have a simmilar problem.
I made a live usb no problem(did that millions of times) and tried to dual boot it with windows 10 (64bits) onto my new computer.
I have intalled it a couple of times before on diffrent computers and at first everything seemed fine even after I booted it for the first time but when i tried to boot it again it wouldn't start the computer would give up on waiting and said it can't find /dev/sdd5, though whenever I have my usb in it boots fine.
    I have a GTX 660, one 238GB LITEONIT LCS-256M6S 2.5 7mm 256GB (SSD), two 465GB Seagate ST3500630AS (SATA) and I'm trying to install it on the second HDD, I have a Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.80GHz, 8 GB ddr3 ram, and a Gigabyte P55A-UD3 Motherboard.

    What is the exact error?

Sorry for not reacting for a long time I was kind of busy with exams and all that so I kind of forgot about it.
Anyway this is my error code:
Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems:
    - Boot args (cat /proc/comdline)
    - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
    - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/ssd5 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

    BusyBox v1.22.1 (Debian 1:1.22.0-19+b2) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

    (initramfs) _

That was what shows up on screen anyway.

That looks like broken installation. Can you boot into recovery code?

Did that succesfully then tried updating (don't know if it did anything tough) and after that kali was working fine again!
