    Cannot change resolution

I have recently installed the Kali 64 bit(first download on Kali.org/downloads/) and have been messing around with some of the stuff on it. Something that is bothering me though is it is constantly in 1024 x 768 resolution and I have a 1920 x 1080 monitor. I have went into the kali linux settings and when I click on the resoultion there is nothing else there. I went into the terminal and typed "xrander" but it says that the minimum and maximum resolution is 1024 x 768. Is there somewhere in the files I can change this?

    Thanks in advance.

You probably need drivers for your video card (generic drivers are used for now I guess). Install them then resolutions should be displayed correctly.
