Freeze while booting on Pi 1 (B+)

I am trying to run Kali on a Pi B+ 1.2, but after imaging the SD card and attempting to boot, the boot screen freezes at the message:
    Code:
cgf802111: calling CRDA to update world regulatory domain
...and the boot screen simply freezes and the cursor stops flashing.
    I have:
    • verified the SHA256 hash of the image
    • tried imaging the SD multiple times with both dd and Etcher (the tool recommended on the Raspberry Pi website)

so I'm quite sure the file wasn't corrupted somehow. I am thinking the file could be incompatible with that model of Pi (I am using the Kali Linux RaspberryPi w/TFT 2018.1 image).
Do you have any ideas on why this isn't working or any fixes?

    Hi nm111,

    Use this image instead:
    https://images.offensive-security.co...-nexmon.img.xz

The one you used does work, but it is configured for a tft display, i.e. when the screen freezes it has switched the output from hdmi to tft, which makes it tricky to use if you don't have a tft ;-)

    Hope that helps.

The rpi0w-nexmon image boots on Pi 1 to shell but doesn't have desktop installed.
