Back when backtrack 2 was the latest version, I installed for the first time from a console, I followed a video tutorial by a senior member Ralik.

Did everything from the console from inside a booted bt2 live CD. Created separate partitions for boot, root, swap, home.

If I remember I think I simply copied all the files over from the live environment to the correct partition then installed grub.

This was a slax based operating system and now kali is debian based.

so. Can I start up the kali live os, mount the hdd with a proper partition structure and simply copy the files over from live os to hdd? Install grub and be done? No interactive magical Gui?
