I have successfully installed Kali on my desktop and got it to boot. However, it seems to be in 'terminal' mode and asks me to logon. Even after logging on as root, Gnome fails to start. Any ideas?

Problem solved. Kali Linux starts in Terminal mode. After logging in, enter 'startx' and windows mode starts.
Alternative solveed: root@chacka0101:~# gnome-shell --replace
