    Update Upgrade - exploitdb hang

    Hi,
    I've installed KL from an ISO on a Vbox VM running on a Fedora 28 host. As part of a hacking course on Udemy: The installation went fine, as I followed the instructions for changing the sources.list entries and removing all previous, after install, to:

    deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib
    deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib

    Then ran apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y
    This was obviously quite long, but the issue came during the update when the exploitdb just froze at that point. When eventually I shutdown and restarted the system, the screen just went a uniform blue and did not complete the boot process. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Did it freeze or was it just taking a long time? ExploitDB is a fairly large package, as far as package sizes go (~171MB installed) - either way, can you try to send ctrl+alt+f1 to the VM and see if it gets you a text console? If you're able to, you should be able to login, and re-run the command which will tell you to run something along the lines of dpkg --configure -a and then run the upgrade (and then dist-upgrade) again, to finish it off.

    If you're not able to, you may want to reinstall, or just download the virtualbox vm image we already have on the download site.

    Thank you Steev. It's difficult to say if it was just taking a long time or not, now. Seemed quite extensive at the time, so I googled the issue and noted someone else, with the same issue not completing after 8 hours. While I didn't wait that long myself, I did then consider it might have stalled. It's all progressive steps forward, even when it fowls up
