Blank Screen after Installing to External HDD?

I decided to install KL on my 3TB HDD, but I partitioned it leaving 2TB to still be used for other things. I fired up VirtualBox and added the external drive as a USB device and installed kali to the drive that way. I gave the root partition 20GB, the Swap space 16GB, and gave the rest to /home. When GRUB came up I put install to master boot record and finished up the instillation. However, when I select the drive to boot from in the BIOS, it just shows that flashing underscore and doesn't boot. Any ideas what went wrong?

Not all external hard drives can be used to boot, it depends on the device unfortunately. Have you searched the net to see if your hard drive supports being a boot device (other people mentioning doing it and such)
