Kali in VMware Workstation 15 Pro Freezing

My configuration:
Host: Windows 10 Pro
Guest: Kali 2018.4 VMware download
VMware Workstation 15.0.2 Pro

The issue just recently started to come up that when I drag and drop a file into or out of a Kali VM using VMware Workstation 15 Pro, the copy window starts and then the VM locks up. It locks up so bad that I have to reboot the host machine. I've gone through the VMware forums to find out how to restart services and end tasks but I can't get the VM to stop or close the window. Once the windows host restarts, I can start the Kali VM and it works like normal... until I need to get a file into or out of the VM. I do not run into this issue with other VMs, I've reinstalled VMware several times just to test. Right now I'm using shared folders to move files back and forth.

I've tried this a couple of times and am able to reproduce this specific issue by downloading the latest Kali 2018.4 VMware VM from the download page.

Yes, all my exact setup works with other distros (Ubuntu 18.04, ParrotOS 4.5, and Arch)

Did you install vm tools? I have issues as well on Hyper-v when I connect to the console through hyper-v it freezes. I installed teamviewer and connect with that and everything works great maybe try that

The package for VM tools are open-vm-tools (or open-vm-tools-gui if using a desktop environment).
