Kali Linux total install failure ver 2019.2 as native OS

I am attempting to install Kali linux as the native OS on a System76 Oryx Pro Gen2 Laptop from a usb. I will post the hardware specs, below. I can boot from a Kali usb and go through the entire install process successfully. I use the guided method with encrypted LVM to partition the drive, and set all files in 1 partition. The install process finishes, and I restart the laptop, the grub menu loads, and after I unlock the drive all I get is a flashing cursor and no boot.

When I go into the grub boot loader and insert "nomodeset" in front of quiet splash, and try to boot. I get a mei_me int hw failure, layer 2 initialization failure and no boot.

When I try to load Kali live from the usb, I get the same error, mei_me int hw failure, layer 2 initialization failure, and Kali doesn't boot from the usb drive either.

I have had debian, ubuntu, POP OS and Windows 10 installed successfully on this laptop. It is brand new, and only has issues with Kali linux.

If anyone has encountered this issue or can offer any suggestions as to where to begin, any help is appreciated.

System76 Oryx Pro Hardware Specs.
- Intel 8th gen i7 CPU
- Samsung NVMe M.2 SSD - primary boot frive.
- NVIDIA 1070 GPU
- 32GB DDR4 3000MHz RAM

Have you tried with "nouveau.modeset=0" instead?

could you show the exact error text?

Thank you for the reply. I tried "nouveau.modeset=0" It worked. I was able to get to the login screen and successfully login. Is there any way to make that change permanent, so that I don't have to edit the grub on every start up?

yes, edit grub to add it. You can also blacklist nouveau driver.
