Trying to connect to router with Ralink adapter independently thru Kali

Hey all, newbie here. I have a Awus036nh using Kali Linux 6.0.8 on a virtualbox on macOS. Installed extension pack. When I go to settings > ports I check ?not attached? as I want to use the wifi adapter independently within Kali Linux VM . I don?t want card attached to my host to use that internet . So my Mac should have its own internet conx and my Kali vm should be using the wifi adapter to then connect to my wifi.

once i installed the extension pack, card was detected, and i selected card in Settings > Ports> USB

    - when card is first plugged in via USB to my mac, blue light is on solid. I noticed when launching Kali, once it seems to detect card on startup, the light starts to flash infrequently, kind of off and on like its working or something. Much like the hard drive light of a PC when its "working".. random flashes.

So if I go into Ports> USB > USB 2.0 is selected, and down below in the box I see my Ralink 802.11 n WLAN [0101] .

    - by default, card was set to Settings > Network > "Enable Network Adapter" is checked and "Set to" is set to NAT.

I think i have to set this to "Not Attached" to use it independently, as from my tests, I only get internet in Kali when it is set to NAT. If i change to Not Attached, no internet in Kali, can't ping google.com says there is no such command or something..

So when set to NAT, here are my outputs:

    ifconfig
    eth0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 10.0.2.15 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.0.2.255

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
    root@kali:~#

if i change to "Not Attached" i cannot get any internet... wlan0 disappears from ifconfig, and Ralink
    disappears from lsusb

i shouldnt have to install any drivers from what i have been reading, and i have tried the system network manager restart commands (syntax not accurate, just cant rmb what it is.. im a noob remember)

again, im trying to make the Ralink independent of my mac, and only connect to internet through the Kali machine. so i should be able to turn my mac WiFi off, and still have Kali Wifi on, as i will be connecting through Ralink to my router.

Please let me know if anyone can help?

So, you want to use it on your Mac? Your post isn't clear on what you want to do.

In windows you could disable the adapters independently at network adapters popup. As virtualbox or whatever would create its own adapter. But dnk about MACs srry.

I want to use the wifi adapter independently of my Mac within Kali Linux, so I am bypassing the internal built in card that came with Mac.. I want this wireless adapter to be able to work in the VirtualBox so that if I turn off wifi on my Mac , outside of the virtual box, that this wifi adapter will still work even if wifi on Mac is turned off, outside of Kali. Know what I mean?

Like I said if MACs are anything like Windows machines, go into the MAC settings look for network adpters, disable what you want.

I don?t know what you mean.. what does disabling MAC going to do to fix this? Why would I disable the MAC? Is it defaulting to my macOS card and sticking to it? I put the card into monitor mode.. it says the status now is ?dormant? instead of DOWN.

Anyone know what that means? It?s impossible I?m the only one with this issue..
