I asked this very question 3 weeks ago and didn't get a solid answer as to why it's listening but spoke to several people who say there's no good reason for rpcbind, which is what was listening on port 111 in my Kali VM, to be exposed. They also recommended I stop the service. So confirm if it's rpcbind and if it is, firewall it with iptables or UFW. in my case, I disabled it.
