Display issues with 2020 and newer

Back in January when I first updated to the newest version of Kali on my laptop I started getting the attached display issue on my system. Its a Lenovo ThinkPad T431s with an Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller. If you're having problems seeing what is happening, I am getting multiple staircases of black dashes going across the screen. I have determined that it the issue is with the display/monitor.

For troubleshooting, I have confirmed that the issue is only with the onboard video and monitor. If I take a screenshot the lines do not appear, I only see them when looking at the monitor. I have connected an adapter and external monitor (digital mini out to HDMI) at which point the issue immediately goes away on the laptop until it is shut down or restarted.

Is there anything that I can check or do to give myself a permanent fix for this annoying display issue? Thanks!
