Will Kali Linux work fully on a laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800 H processor?

I have a new ASUS TUF A17 laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor (and a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti). While Windows 10 doesn't have any obvious issues there are problems with Kali whether booting from a USB stick or running in VirtualBox.

Is there a problem/conflict between Kali and the AMD processor?

got a zephyrus g15, ryzen 7 4800HS with Geforce GTX 2060. Installation was fine. To restart the first boot, editing the grub default command lines with "amdgpu.exp_hw_support=1". However, you'll face another issue which are the horizontal line tearing. Which can be fixed by refreshing the screen and refresh rate. The way i did it was adding 2 startup commands.

First Startup App (call it Fix -#1)
xrandr --output eDP --mode 1920x1080 --rate 60

2nd Startup App (Call it Fix -#2)
xrandr --output eDP --mode 1920x1080 --rate 144

that should fix the horizontal screen tear.

i am not sure if there are any better ways... but this worked for me.

I just got a Lenovo Legion 5 with Ryzen 4800H and Nvidia 1650ti, Managed to get Kali to work with 5.6.0-kali2-amd64, however I had to choose the dedicated Nvidia card as opposed to hybrid mode in the BIOS.

The only thing still not working is the touchpad so I have to use a USB mouse...

I managed to install Kali on my new Lenovo Legion 5. Ryzen 4800H and Nvidia GTX 1650Ti. I had to disable hybrid graphics mode in the BIOS though and choose "Discrete option" Then when Kali boots you need to choose the latest kernel (5.6)

Now my only issue is getting the touchpad to work :-)

    Hi,

I found your question when searching solution for my Asus A17-tuf66iu (Ryzen 4800H + Geforce 1660).
All works fine with kernel 5.8 : I don't use Kali but I successful installed Ubuntu 20.04 with 5.8 mainline kernel.
Both AMD and Nvidia GPU works after a little work.
I wrote this https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/asus-a17-tuf66iu (in French)and hope it will help

    Hi,

I can say that Ryzen 4800H with gtx 1660 works whith ubuntu and 5.8 mainline kernel but not with kernel lower than 5.7.
After install I had to update kernel in rescue mode first. Then all wath ok.
So you should update to 5.8 kernel after install
