    WSL 1 -> WSL 2 upgrade conversion for Kali failing due to "bsdtar: (null)" error

    I recently successfully upgraded one of my distros to WSL 2 but for some reason, kali keeps throwing this weird error. Anyone have an idea on what I can do to fix this? I've cleared the /tmp directory just to see if it would help and it did not progress any further. I've done it with it both stopped and running just for kicks and no luck either. Restarted multiple times as well and ran it with no luck either.

    PS C:\Windows\system32> wsl --list --verbose
    NAME STATE VERSION
    * Ubuntu Stopped 2
    kali-linux Running 1
    PS C:\Windows\system32> wsl --set-version kali-linux 2
    Conversion in progress, this may take a few minutes...
    For information on key differences with WSL 2 please visit https://aka.ms/wsl2
    Exporting the distribution failed.
    bsdtar: (null)

    PS C:\Windows\system32>

    I would appreciate any advice, as I have already gone on github to ask around and no luck there.

    Hi,

    There is an article on Kali blog, explaining the conversion steps, perhaps it could help you:
