Updation problem

I am new in kali linux...
trying to update system with command:

apt update

error coming like this...

Reading package lists... Done
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/
W: Problem unlinking the file /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin - RemoveCaches (13: Permission denied)
W: Problem unlinking the file /var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin - RemoveCaches (13: Permission denied)

not understand why such message comes...
any clue please

Try this command sudo apt-get update.
After you type this it will ask for your root password.
If this does not work then try changing your repos.
repos can be found in /root/etc/apt/sources.list.
and if you are facing slow speed in terminal then try this link:-http://http.kali.org/README.mirrorlist
here you will find fastest repos at your location and continent also other repos below.
