Kali Linux on Virtualbox not working

I have tried everything from enabling virtualization to messing with almost every setting on virtualbox. Whenever I boot it up it will go through the boot process and it just turns black. I have Virtualbox 6.1.14, my computer is a HP Pavilion G6, and I am using windows 10. I use the latest version of kali linux on the site, and I downloaded the prepackaged setup OVA thing. I've got an ACER and I'm getting the same thing and it seems to be after running sudo apt upgrade. I've been looking for a fix or work around myself, it hangs on the black screen and doesn't complete logging in and CTRL+ALT+F1 just goes back to the log in screen asking for the password.
