also when i type skype into the terminal i get this:

    Code:
    apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk
    then download

    Code:
    http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-debian_4.0.0.7-1_i386.deb
    when you download

    Code:
    dpkg -i --force-architecture skype-debian_4.0.0.7-1_i386.deb

Use official wiki documentation on amd64 architecture.

This did not help me. Does anyone have another solution? After :

    apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk
    I receive the following error:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    ia32-libs : Depends: ia32-libs-i386
    ia32-libs-gtk : Depends: ia32-libs-i386
    Depends: ia32-libs-gtk-i386
    skype:i386 : Depends: libasound2:i386 (>= 1.0.16)
Depends: libqt4-dbus:i386 (>= 4:4.5.3) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqt4-network:i386 (>= 4:4.8.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqt4-xml:i386 (>= 4:4.5.3) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqtcore4:i386 (>= 4:4.7.0~beta1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqtgui4:i386 (>= 4:4.8.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqtwebkit4:i386 (>= 2.1.0~2011week13) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libstdc++6:i386 (>= 4.6) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxss1:i386 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxv1:i386 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libssl1.0.0:i386 but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
This leads to the following error when I try to dpkg skype:

    dpkg: error processing skype (--install):
    dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
    Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils ...
    Processing triggers for gnome-menus ...
    Processing triggers for hicolor-icon-theme ...
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    skype
which cannot be fixed with 'apt-get -f install'

    'apt-get -f install' removes skype.

Thank you in advance for any help/advice.

Hey, just wanted to give my 2 cents, it took forever for me to get skype to work, but this worked perfectly for me after CDing to the location where the skype tar.gz file was.

    here's the linK!
