Kali-Live (USB) on MacBook Air M1 (how to boot on it?)

    hi,
recently owner of MacBook Air M1, I have followed the installation in the download page..
i have used "Etcher" and transferred the "iso" fail to a 32Go USB flash drive and all look
be done correctly.. but when I reboot my Macbook, I don't see the USB flash drive (with
Kali-Live installed, plugged in it with an ZMUIPNG adapter for USB3 access port)..
my "Finder" see the USB and it content a "boot" and "EFI" files..

i have done a mistake somewhere or missing something?

on my old HP LapTop, I run Kali-Live easily and love how
easy is it.. so, now that M1 are on the market since 2020
i was sure to find something with the "search" engine here
but the engine look not working (no result with the only
MacBook word).. I'm sure not be the first to try Kali-Live
on new M1 Mac but I'm first to ask here??
    thanks..

First, start again.. the Fat format the USB it is at originally is using the MBR partition scheme and so is not bootable by a Mac..

In Disk Utility, 'Erase' the USB using 'Mac OS Extended' for file type and make sure the 'scheme' is 'GUID Partition Type'

Then try recreating your drive in Etcher after that and it should boot..

I tried what you suggested but it still isn't working. I changed my usb's format to macOS journaled and the partition type to GUID using disc utility but still when I restart my Mac the only available drive is Macintosh and no other drive to live boot from Linux.
Can you please suggest something else?

We do not support booting the Live USB (or even installer) on APple Silicon currently, only via VM.

If currently live booting via USB or installer is not supported then why does the Kali Linux site has an ISO image for Apple Silicon for live boot? I selected apple silicon ISO image for the live boot version and downloaded it. If it is not supported then is this some kind of joke to be displaying an apple silicon ISO amongst the 64 and 32 bit installers for live booting via USB?!

It's because you can use it with the VM software.

The M1 will *never* be able to just pop in a USB key and boot due to the way the Apple bootchain works on the Apple Silicon devices.

So what you are saying is that whether I decide to use the Bare metal version or the live boot version, for both the cases I will have to use virtual machine. Am I right?
