Musket Teams(MTeams) had a desktop which would revert to a blank screen during run up regardless of whether kali was loaded from a usb flash drive or after a Hard Drive Install. Here is how MTeams fixed the problem.

Insert a live or persistent usb install of Kali in the usb slot of your computer and boot.

If you have set your BIOS correctly a list of menu choices will be displayed on the screen.

Using the up and down arrows on the keyboard highlight either:

Live system, or Live system with usb persistence, BUT DO NOT HIT ENTER!

With your choice highlighted select the TAB key

A line of text will appear on the bottom of your screen below the kali usb install menu choices.

Use the Space Bar to enter one(1) space at the end of this command line then type:

nomodeset

Type CTRL x then [Enter]

The program for us ran up normally with Kali Linux now on the screen.

Next we rebooted the computer with the USB install of Kali and was able to do a hard drive install from the usb as follows:

Highlight Start Installer with the up and down arrows - DO NOT type ENTER!!!

Select the TAB key

A line of text will be shown on the bottom of your screen below the kali usb install menu choices.

Use the Space Bar to enter one(1) space at the end of this command line then type:

nomodeset

Type

CTRL x then [Enter]

Work thru the Hard drive install menus as normal

If the nomodeset does not work and your screen stays blank during the initial usb boot there are other choices then nomodeset that you can try?

This appears to permanently solve the blank screen problem on the Hard Drive Install. However it is not permanent on the USB install hence you will have to do the initial procedures as outlined above each time you run Kali Linux via USB.

Finally during the update/upgrade we were asked to up-date the graphic drivers as the ones installed were not supported and we selected No. The program ran fine after reboot,
