    Adding Mirrors After Install

If you didn't have an active or reliable internet connection during a hard disk install, you probably didn't get the mirrors added at that time. This will cause issues in the future when seeking new or updated software packages from the Kali repos.

    To add the sources:

    1. Use your favored text editor to open /etc/apt/sources.list

    2. Add the following two lines to your source list:
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
    deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib

    3. Save and you're good to go!

You can check that the sources have been added and are being used by loading Add/Remove Software from the Sys Tools menu and selecting System -> Software Sources.

Thank you, saved me after I'd 'borrowed' my network connection for another machine during build process.

Note: based on Kali FAQ at: http://docs.kali.org/frequently-asked-questions
    You might consider revising:
    /etc/apt/sources.list
    with:
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main contrib non-free
    deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free

You can also add more sources from Kali by doing the following:
    nano /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali main contrib non-free
    deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free

if youre still using kali 2.0 and u feel like upgrading to rolling 2016.1 , its very simple to upgrade.
all you have to do is edit the sources file, and replace the remaining sources. after dat update and reboot.

    open terminal/konsole and type

    cat << EOF > /etc/apt/sources.list
    deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib
    EOF

    apt-get update
    apt-get upgrade
    apt-get dist-upgrade
    reboot

Please note that the Kali sana repositories will no longer be updated and will be EOL’d on the 15th of April 2016.
incase you are wondering the need to upgrade, You need this upgrade for security fixes, and some other nice things.

i should probably make this a separate topic, so others can be aware.

If same problem with Kali 2016 edit sources.list with the lines in the Kali rolling repository here:
    http://docs.kali.org/general-use/kal...t-repositories
