    Kali having Display/Radeon Error and automatically signing off

    Hi Guys

    I am getting radeon error as below, and the kali system automatically signoff losing any unsaved work. And need to start from again. Browser tabs can be restored when i sign-back and come, nothing more.
    The system freezes for 2 to 3 seconds displaying the below error messages in black screen and then signs-off.

    Additional info: I am using dual monitors. Not sure is it related to that.

    Its very annoying and happens very frequently.

    Any thoughts to solve the issue?

    disable the in built intel GPU and force it to use only the AMD its probably a GPU switching error, Linux isn't good at that

    Thanks for giving a insight to the error.

    Tried to disable builtin Intel, in grub as i915.modeset=0. Then unable to boot to GUI. Revert back.

    Instead disabled AMD ( In grub added, amd.radeon=0).

    Issue remains with builtin intel only ( while amd was disabled)

    Doubt: I hadn't installed additional graphics card in my laptop (in this case AMD), hope its showing from my Docking station DELL 3100.

    xrandr list while AMD Disabled as below:

    └─$ xrandr --listproviders
    Providers: number : 5
    Provider 0: id: 0x43 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 3 outputs: 2 associated providers: 4 name:modesetting
    Provider 1: id: 0x13a cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
    Provider 2: id: 0x119 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
    Provider 3: id: 0xf8 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
    Provider 4: id: 0xd6 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting

    Xrandr with AMD enabled:
    └─$ xrandr --listproviders
    Providers: number : 6
    Provider 0: id: 0x43 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 3 outputs: 2 associated providers: 5 name:modesetting
    Provider 1: id: 0x158 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
    Provider 2: id: 0x137 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
    Provider 3: id: 0x116 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
    Provider 4: id: 0xf5 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
    Provider 5: id: 0xd4 cap: 0xd, Source Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 0 outputs: 0 associated providers: 1 name:HAINAN @ pci:0000:01:00.0

    Tried xrandr offloadsink to set all providers to use provider 5: only for provider 5 to provider 0 working. rest of them error as below;

    ┌──(szecu㉿kali)-[~]
    └─$ xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 0xd4 0xf5

    Minor opcode of failed request: 34 (RRSetProviderOffloadSink)

    Serial number of failed request: 20
    Current serial number in output stream: 21

    ┌──(szecu㉿kali)-[~]
    └─$ xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 5 4
    X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
    Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
    Minor opcode of failed request: 34 (RRSetProviderOffloadSink)
    Value in failed request: 0xf5
    Serial number of failed request: 20
    Current serial number in output stream: 21

    ┌──(szecu㉿kali)-[~]
    └─$ xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 5 0

    ┌──(szecu㉿kali)-[~]
    └─$

    Is there any other way to disable builtin Intel card and use AMD permanently. Thanks.

    There is a driver in the Kali repositories;

    sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu

    And the switcheroo app to change gpu's for you;

    sudo apt install switcheroo-control
