No network in Network Manager, Cant connect to wifi. But airodump-ng working

I've just started kali for a month and just know all the basics. I have dual booted kali with windows using USB.

I can search for networks using airodump-ng.But I cant connect to any of the network.

    Here are some commands:

    iwconfig
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11 ESSIDff/any
    Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry short limit:7 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thrff

    lo no wireless extensions.

Can you provide a link to that thread where you got that solution? Though you have successfully blacklisted the ideapad_wlan driver yet i still want to see the output of lsmod and cat /etc/modrobe.d/blacklist.conf.

I get a simialr problem with my rtl8812au card when i use kismet, or similar programs. I think the issue is that kismet puts the card into monitor mode and gets stuck there ...if I close kismet then remove the card and reinsert it (or rmmod rtl88xxau, then modprobe it again) it starts working. Just a thought?
    Good luck.

I was not able to find the conflicting driver but rtl8821ae can be one. It may be a legitimate driver of your wifi adapter but still give a try and blacklist it.

I don't know if it will work, but...
if it's a usb device, unplug it; wait a few seconds, then plug it in again. DONT run airodump; just go straight to networkmanager. See if it works. (But this will not work if you have blacklisted the driver it needs. You need to decide which method to troubleshoot first; either do this or do the blacklisting and follow that up.
OK, sorry, I se it's a pci device. You'll need to
    Code:
    rmmod rtl8821ae
    insmod rtl8821ae
There may also be modules which depend on rtl8821ae. you will need to rmmod them too to get it to uninstall. Then reinsert (insmod or modprobe them all.)

Also, this chipset is known to have intermittent problems under linux. You can build and install the latest drivers from here:

    There are instructions.

I have tried the solution above
rmmod was fine but insmod it gives an error

I tried your solution and it blocked the wifi in rfkill , so rfkill is left with Bluetooth and I already undo it.
As I know rtl8821ae is the legit one.
    Any other solution

Then this is the problem with a driver. Show the output of lspci -vv but don't post the whole output. There is a Network controller section in the output. Copy that.

It's definitely a problem with driver. You have to search how to install rtl8821ae driver in linux.

Why can"t you use the link I posted? It is a link for the driver you need, and it is a working link.

The page explains how to do it ...but you will need a working internet connection in Linux.
If you do some googling, you can find the driver in Windows, then save it and boot into Linux and copy it from your Windows C: drive. But there is a bit of work to do there; you might have some quick learning to do.
Can you use a phone's data connection to get Linux to access the internet? It's pretty straightforward if you can just get some sort of internet connection working.

You need to make sure the kernel headers are installed....
Did you have any errors when running
    Code:
     sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git
    ?
And, just checking, you are doing this with a hard drive installed Kali or a Persistence Kali which is working properly?
I had issues with the Kali Live from the standard repository; had to download the weekly build. But don't do that yet. It might not be your problem.
Is it a functioning Kali Live with Persistence which you are trying to install the driver for?

I don't think Kali has linux-headers-generic. I can"t see it anyway. You will need to work out which kernel you are running
    Code:
    uname -r
and then install the headers for that kernel.
    Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-4.12.0-kali1-686 [FOR EXAMPLE]
    Hopefully this will work.
I could be wrong here. Can you check whether you have kernel headers installed? Do let me know if I'm on the wrong track.

    Kali doesn't use generic headers.
The require command in kali is sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

The one you mentioned is also same.

    generic-headers are available for ubuntu

    How's it going, then, Nivla?
    Any luck then?
(Letting us know the outcome helps other people who run into the same problem).
Did your wifi drop our after you used a particular program (say, airodump?), or did it just not work one day when you booted up?
You might find a workaround by uninstalling & reinstalling the modules, or you might fix it by dist-upgrading and installing the newest driver.
Do keep us updated if you can.
    Cheers.

the problem is not a kali linux related problem, it is a debian problem.

I just found 2 solution until this moment :

    1- using a wifi usb adapter : http://www.wirelesshack.org/best-kal...gles-2016.html

    2- when connection lost :
    2.1- unload the module : sudo modprobe -r rtl8821ae
2.2- load the module : sudo modprobe rtl8821ae

So Ive been fixing it for the past week and found out , my wifi works after i delete kali in my laptop and dual boot it again but there is still some bugs.

Airodump or wash or aireplay only works like for a particular time and it stops.

Normally airodump it shows the networks near you right and then suddenly it started to stop randomly and the networks slowly dissapear one by one until nothing is left.

Then i need to do ipconfig wlan0mon down to restart it again and it works fine again .
So the thing is I need to keep typing ifconfig wlan0mon down to keep it working when capturing data.Help?

Because I fixed mine by unistalling and deleting everything and dual booting it again.

I'm not sure what you mean by this ...can you explain more clearly?
Some drivers are just 'buggy', you might need to keep uninstalling and reinstalling the module (or bringing the interface down then up again) to keep it working.
Or try regularly checking and installing the latest driver -that might be your best bet.

You also blacklisted the ideapad_laptop module. Didn't you? Why are you not mentioning that?
