    Kl 2016.1

    https://www.kali.org/downloads/

Can someone that has it report back about the user interface? Is it the same as KL 2.0 ? What outstanding changes if any?

    Cheers! Thx =]

EDIT: nevermind. They reverted it back to 2.0

When KL 2016.1 does come out, my questions above remain.

Is it possible for you to upload the files? I would really like to try the new Kali though it isn't currently available.

Kali-rolling (aka kali 2016.1) will hopefully be fully released later today (download links. documtations, blog post etc etc). It's released was delayed yesterday (EFI issues on certain images).
You can be an early bird and just download it from a mirror .

Hello all. I am on a limited data plan at the moment, and as such am not able to download the latest Kali ISO, 2016.1

I however, did notice something that concerns me. The ISO, usually 3.1GB, is not at 2.8GB.

Can anyone explain this size regression? Did they remove tools? Did 2.0 have unnecessary bloat etc?

    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, rootjb0

Obviously, Open-VM-Tools are not working for me in Kali Linux Rolling Edition 2016.1 (no cut&paste, no file transfer).

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    PS1: Yes, I did apt-get update;apt-get install open-vm-tools-desktop fuse;reboot

PS2: I performed transitioning from Kali 2.0 to Kali Rolling

EDITED: Found the solution by myself. For people having the same problem, here is what worked for me:

    Code:
    # uninstall vmware tools (note: I transitioned from Kali 2.0):
    vmware-uninstall-tools.pl

    # uninstall open-vm-tools
    apt-get remove open-vm-tools-desktop
    apt-get autoremove
    reboot

    # install open-vm-tools
    apt-get install open-vm-tools-desktop
    reboot

KL 2.0 on a USB 2.0 key was very slow/unworkable. How does KL 2016.1 perform on a USB 2.0 ? Same as 2.0? Slow as ****?

USB 2.0 is kinda slow in general, should update to 3.0.

I like it so far, only issue I've had is that I lost multi-threading in John (which kind of sucks). Noticed it today when I went to work on some Linux hashes.

Really. Are you serious? Had no idea that 3.0 was faster than 2.0. Thank you for this revelation. I will go to bed a little smarter than I was.
