    404 Not found

    Greetings,

I have been using Kali for over a year now and no issue at all on any level.
I am running Kali 1.06 64 in VMware Workstation 10.X. Again, I never had any issue until last night when I tried to run an update/upgrade. Below are the errors I am getting.

Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y

Here is my sources.list file that worked like a charm for about a year.

    deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-dev main contrib non-free
    deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-dev main/debian-installer
    deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali-dev main contrib non-free
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main contrib non-free

    deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
    deb http://repo.kali.org/kali kali-bleeding-edge main
    deb-src http://repo.kali.org/kali kali-bleeding-edge main

I double check that I was not doing something wrong eventhough all had been good for over a year. As per this post --> http://docs.kali.org/general-use/kal...t-repositories, and https://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Census/Kali, I seem to have the correct sources.list file.

Then run a couple of command lines to try to clean it all; worth a try as it had been running flawlessly and sometimes things can mangled up.

apt-get clean # Remove cached packages
    cd /var/lib/apt
mv lists lists.old # Backup mirror info
    mkdir -p lists/partial # Recreate directory structure
    apt-get clean
apt-get update # Fetch mirror info

but still no go. I did a fresh install and still same error. I remove the sources and kept only the repos as per post -->
http://docs.kali.org/faq/kali-sources-list-faq. I still got the 404 error when I ran the update/upgrade. Finally tried the --fix-missing and still no go.

I am stumped like a tree

I would appreciate any help of course. Thank you all

Make sure VMWare is the latest version and you have the most current guest additions if you're using them. I had the same problem in virtualbox and that fixed it, but I don't know if the same principals apply. Good luck though!

I have the same problem in a fresh installed kali 64bits dual boot with windows 7. Never happened before. I even tried to update with gui but same result.

I find How to fix it

    first I install:
    sudo apt-get install build-essential
    then install:
    sudo apt-get install build-essential checkinstall
    sudo apt-get install autoconf automake autotools-dev m4
    sudo apt-get install libx11-dev
    sudo apt-get install freeglut3-dev
    After installing modify source.list
    sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
    with this:
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali main contrib non-free
    deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
Try to update it will give you an error of GPG to fix it do this:
    sudo apt-key adv --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys ED444FF07D8D0BF6
this willnot work so you will remove the deb-src from the source.list
after do so you will update normally:
    apt-get update
    And upgrade too.
if it gives you an error use apt-get update --fix-missing and then upgrade.
I test it 2 times and It work

    Error http://http.kali.org/kali/ kali/main kali-linux amd64 1.44 404 Not Found

    I had a similar error with Kali 1.0.6 64bit
    Got the error below
    E: Error http://http.kali.org/kali/ kali/main kali-linux amd64 1.44 404 Not Found
    when executing Application>System Tools>Software Update

I followed djhbjxc's steps and all went well after that.
