Okay, so I haven’t found a fix for it yet and seems as though no one has suggested anything, I have tried to make progress on my own.
I tried to uninstall gnome-text-editor but DO NOT DO THIS! It will uninstall gnome-desktop and all your graphics will be installed. This is because gnome-text-editor for some reason is a dependency for gnome-desktop in kali.
So far, my “fix” was to leave gnome-text-editor in peace and I installed mousepad which is an alternative text editor. I then made mousepad the default text editor so I wouldn’t open gnome-text-editor by mistake.
If anyone has any better fix, i’m all ears but this has worked for me so far.
My first idea would be that you didn’t follow the upgrade guide, some people reported various gui issues if they used “sudo apt upgrade” and not the recommende “sudo apt full-upgrade”.
But that’s just guesswork - you would be best adviced to follow the guide for basic troubleshooting and look at the log files.
The reason no one replies is that you are essentially asking people to guess blindly, while you sit at the source of information about your system.
I have fixed the issue. I had 3D acceleration enabled in the screen settings. Once I unticked the box, all the graphics work fine.
