My problem would be that since Kali Linux version 2024.2, if I tick multiple partitions during installation, after installation, when I need to unlock the encrypted partitions, it only asks for the password of one partition, then after about 1 minute of waiting it says cannot accesses open console the root account is locked and throws me into emergency shell. If I install and upgrade from Kali Linux 2024.1, there is no problem. The problem with this is that I won’t be able to fix the problem forever, because there will come a time when it will be so old that it won’t be possible to update it. I’ve tried it on several devices and environments, but the result is always the same: if I install the old one, it works, but not the new one.
I install in UEFI mode, put the boot and efi partitions on a separate thumb drive, and format the partitions to ext4 filesystem.
I tried it, and when installed in Virtualbox, the error also occurs.
I tried that if I just create a partition and put everything on it, I can encrypt it, unlock it and log in. The error is only reported if I create multiple partitions for other folders and encrypt them too.
It is not recommended to encrypt the system partition, as it can cause issues, and I’m guessing that is what you are trying? It would explain why it can’t boot..
This is a bit older now, but process is the same for multi partition encryption;
Yes I want to encrypt the system.I have always encrypted root and home folders separately, which always worked until 2024.1. 2024.1 was the last one I could encrypt like that. On the newer ones it doesn’t work anymore. The only way I can get around it on the newer ones is to install the 2024.1 version and upgrade from that, but who knows how long that will work.
