Most likely either the installation iso you flashed onto the usb medium was corrupted, or the process the iso was flashed with was not up to documentation - we get a variety of problems from people using rufus in its recommended mode rather than with balenaetcher (or rufus but in DD mode).

I would suggest to start out with verifying the integrity of the iso you downloaded by calculating its AES256 checksum and comparing it to the one that is listed on the website (right beside the download button of the specific file you downloaded, its hidden behind a button that says SUM)

If the strings match exactly, your download id fine. If they mismatch, your file is corrupted and needs to be downloaded again. Sometimes anti virus software interfers with the file, thinking parts of it are malicious.

Then - use balenaetcher to flash the usb drive.

If the problem persists, use another usb drive and/or another port on the device.

Hello
Personally, I quit using software to write ISO files to USB or external disks. I found Ventoy to be extremely useful in this case.

First download Ventoy and create a USB stick (32 GB is a good start if you have several ISO files to play around with)

Second, after you create a Ventoy USB stuck, simply re-download the ISO file again to avoid using a corrupted ISO (the scenario you describe seems to be a corrupted downloaded ISO), and copy it to the USB stick (yes, just copy and paste in the Ventoy USB stick)

Boot your computer (generally by pressing F12 you will be prompted which device to boot from). You may have to enable USB booting (depending on your computer make and model). Also make sure SECURE BOOT is disabled.

When you correctly boot from Ventoy, you will have an option to boot from the ISO file you copied to the USB stick. If this is the only ISO file you copied to the USB, then this is the only option you will have.

I installed Debian, Kali, Fedora, LinuxMint, Ubuntum and Windows 11 from one single USB without having to reformat the USB for every OS. Just copy the ISO files and when prompted, select the boot option-

You may want to calculate the ISO hash you have downloaded and compare it to the hash of the website.
