Hi Kali team. In the post about the new signing key, you mentioned the following:
But we’re going to unfreeze the repository this week, and it’s now signed with the new key.
Any updates by chance on when that will happen?
Thanks!

i think you can update already. you need the new key
Thanks @serval. I had gone through the steps in that post when it came out on Monday and the key I have matches what’s in the post. I’m just seeing any updates and it looks like the repo hasn’t been updated either.
I didn’t do anything yet, and got this outcome from running apt update
Hit:2 http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling InRelease
No error message.
On the other hand the number of packages available for update seems low. I’m updating weekly and it’s always over 150 and up, this time only 40
Update :
I ran the mentioned procedure in a Kali VM, no change before and after, still a low number of packages and the same outcome as before.
it happens. sometimes the devs have only a few packages to update.
It doesn’t seem as though it has been unfrozen. Still haven’t got any updates despite installing the new key. Some packages common have been updated on my Lubuntu install recently and flagged as security updates. I haven’t actually compared the version numbers, so could be Kali was weeks ahead. I will check tonight and report back.
The repo is about to be unfrozen in one hour or two. Expect a pretty big apt full-upgrade
transaction.
Possibly, just wasn’t used to have so few.
And here we are, today comes this expected error message
@serval I did the recommended procedure, went up from 40 to 300 packages. Good news it seems unfrozen now. Thanks for your input anyway, your reply was totally possible.
