I am having an issue with updating my version of Kali Linux using the update / full-upgrade commands and receiving output errors after running the commands.
I have installed Kali Linux some years ago, via a USB installation, after copying the .iso to a USB drive. Here is the output of my system information
Code:
ilku@kide:~$ cat /etc/os-release PRETTY_NAME="Kali GNU/Linux Rolling"
NAME="Kali GNU/Linux"
ID=kali
VERSION="2021.2"
VERSION_ID="2021.2"

ANSI_COLOR="1;31"

BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.kali.org/"
ilku@kide:~$
I have followed the instructions from How to update Kali here https://www.kali.org/docs/general-use/updating-kali/
My output isn't showing the same output per the instructions
Code:
ilku@kide:~$ cat /etc/apt/sources.listdeb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
ilku@kide:~$
When running
Code:
ilku@kide:~$
ilku@kide:~$ sudo apt update
[sudo] password for ilku:
the following type error is received

After this step is completed, the following versioning information is still observed and the os hasn't been updated to the most recent kali os
Code:
ilku@kide:~$ cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Kali GNU/Linux Rolling"

VERSION="2021.2"
VERSION_ID="2021.2"

Since my /etc/apt/sources.list output wasn't the same as displayed within the Kali Linux instructions,
I moved to the Kali Instructions Default Network Repository Values here https://www.kali.org/docs/general-us...pository-value
My output when following these instructions, displays the proper output for a clean install
Code:
ilku@kide:~$
ilku@kide:~$
ilku@kide:~$ grep-v '#' /etc/apt/sources.list | sort -u
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
ilku@kide:~$
ilku@kide:~$
I have attempted to redirect the repository by repointing to the kali-rolling branch in ROOT
Code:
┌──(root💀kide)-[~]
└─# echo"deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free non-free-firmware" | sudotee /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
This has not helped resolve the issue and I am still unable to get a full upgrade when running the commands, I am also not able to install some general applications, which I believe is a result of not being able to fully update my package, such as flameshot, and google chrome. Is someone able to assist, without me having to do a fresh install of the operating system?
