From cold boot to log-on screen takes roughly 1 minute for me. If you like to make things a bit faster you could always disable startup services. The startup scripts are located in the init.d folder. The easiest way to do this, while also making it easy to re-enable the scripts is to use a simple startup manager. I recommend one called rcconf, simple to use, and easy to understand.
